The incident occurred about 8:30 Friday night. Deputies arrested Gerome Montreal Boseman on Saturday morning, according to a statement from 1st Sgt. T.L. Fuss, spokesman for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Boseman is a student at Mosley Performance Learning Center, formerly Lakeside High School, and the 14-year-old is a student at Ashley High School, officials said. Ashley lost a home game Friday night to West Brunswick High School.
The 14-year-old is being treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and his injuries are not life-threatening, according to the statement released on Monday.
He was stabbed with a knife multiple times, according to the statement.
The stabbing occurred during a fight behind a barn and near a retention pond about a quarter-mile from the high school stadium, according to Valita Quattlebaum, spokeswoman for New Hanover County Schools.
School administrators are working with the sheriff’s office to determine what happened, she said.
The school system could discipline those involved depending on the outcome of its review, she said.
Boseman is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and is being held in the New Hanover County jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
The victim’s name was not released because of his age.

RE: It is shocking and appalling that this child was trumatized like this. He said he thought Boseman was pinching him. The article says that the the child wounds were not life treathening, but the child was on the news and he has been cut from hell to high heaven, and stabbed 9 times. Now if that was my child, somebody would answer to me. Boseman is a man, what was he doing in an altercation with that child? Somebody says, "he didn't mean it!" What the H? If he had meant it what would this child look like? I am waiting to see what precautions will be taken for this. You can't just slide this under the rugs. I can'y sit on my porch for fear that those agressive youth will rob or attact me. I went out of town and 3 Juvies tried to brake in and almost succeeded if someone had not yelled at them, not only that the police was afraid to arrest them. With economy the way it is, things are bound to get worst. To the Family of this 14 years old child, and all other parents >DON'T< let your kids walk home alone after these games, and demand that these school soop up security. This child is scared for life.

I said this in another post and I'll say it here. Why was this kid a couple hundred yards away from the football field behind a "barn" while the football game was still going on? This didn't happen before or after the game. This happened during the game. The kid wasn't walking to or from the game either. I was at the game when all this happened. There is more to this story than some kid getting stabbed. If this kid was inside the game where he was suppose to be, then maybe he wouldn't have been hurt

OMG - I just knew it would come to another "blame the victim" post. Do I get any points for calling this one in the original thread on this story?
So this really is the Willywood way of crime prevention and solving? - blame the victim - head back in sand.

I think we need some more facts before we judge this case. Sounds fishy to me

According to an interview with the victim he was trying to get Boseman to stop 'bullying' a friend of his, who was much smaller is stature, and that's when he was stabbed, the kids were probably out behind the barn to settle a score and things turned ugly.
The fact of the matter is Ashley High has metal detector wands, but they only use them when they suspect someone has a weapon(-psst-that never works):

If the kid went through the High School grounds to get to the barn, then they are liable.

I don't care if the child was 10 miles down the street it does not constitue being stabbed. I know the family and he was stabbed 15 times. When they pulled out his chest tube, which had a large dressing on it, they noticed several more wounds. The chest tube was in for a collasped lung. They were in the parking lot where the students park and boseman and 2 other guys approached them. They were using gang language. boseman hit him and they scuffled and then he was stabbed several times. When he was on bosemans neck, which is why they said he stabbed him, he was tired and week from lung collasped it was all he could do to defend himself. So he was already stabbed before he put his forearm in his neck. The family was upset no one from school had checked to see if he's ok, and nothing else. The prinicpal didn't give a good impression of him self by only giving a small statement on the stabbing. But was very involved in the next article and at least showed his face. They are now saying on news they are unsure who even owns the property where it happened. Come on look at tax records or something! He is recovering great!

I'm not blaming the victim at all...I don't know most of the facts. My only opinion on the matter was that if they boy had been inside the stadium where he belonged he wouldn't have gotten stabbed. Metal detectors wouldn't have made a difference either since this happened outside the stadium. Parents should not leave their 14y/o children at sporting events unattended. Not in today's world, and especially if you cannot trust your child enough that they aren't going to stay inside the stadium to watch the game. This kid might have been trying to help out his friend, but if he and his friend were where they were suppose to, can you honestly tell me this would have happened? I seriously doubt it. These boys met where they did because they knew nobody would see them and they could do what they had planned on doing without getting caught.

Then he should have gone to the SRO,Admin, teacher, or told his parents. He should not have tried to settle things on his own.

Very true, like I stated, the kids were possibly going to settle a 'score' away from adult eyes. However, if they were had been on school grounds that used the tools they have this, quite possibly would not have happened or it wouldn't have been as bad.
